...as a member of Northside United Methodist Church. After attending Duke University and getting a Masters Degree at the University of Georgia, and while engaged to Toby, Katie accepted the summer position of Camp Evergreen Director in 1999, the camp's first summer of operation.

The Grady's married in 1999 and moved to Portland, Oregon so that Toby, a University of Georgia graduate, could pursue his Masters in Divinity at Multnomah Biblical Seminary. Katie taught music in the public school system during this time. The Grady's were employed at a Cub Scout camp in Oregon for one summer, then accepted positions at Camp Evergreen for the following summer. They've been a part of the Camp Evergreen ministry ever since!

In 2003, the Grady's moved to Boone, North Carolina, where Toby began Trail Student Ministries, a campus ministry at Appalachian State University. During their ten years of ministry there, they added three children to the family: Jacob, Sarah Grace and Stephen.

Most recently the Grady family has moved to Clarkesville, GA, just 20 minutes from camp. In addition to running camp in the summer and retreats in the spring and fall, they run a residential discipleship ministry from their home.

Camp Evergreen begins accepting staff applications for the upcoming summer when camper registration opens.

Counselors

Our counselors are energetic, fun-loving college students who have been carefully interviewed and chosen. Staff members are recruited from college campus ministries and go through both a background check and a drug test prior to employment.

Job Description: Counselors (age 20, or have completed one year of college) are responsible for helping to run weekly children’s camps as well as weekend family camps.  Duties include primary responsibility for a cabin of 6-8 campers, leading cabin devotions, leading activities and games and assisting with meal preparation.

Junior Counselors & Counselors-in-Training

A Junior Counselor is a returning Counselor-in-Training.  Both are high school aged staff members. Many of our high school students are former campers who just couldn't leave Camp Evergreen out of their summer plans! Our high school staff members serve as support to cabin counselors and help with kitchen clean-up.

Job Description: Counselors-in-Training (first year staff) and Junior Counselors (return staff) are rising 10th-12th grade students who are responsible for helping to run weekly children’s camps. Duties include living in a cabin and assisting head counselor in caring for 6-8 campers, assisting in activities and games, and assisting meal clean-up.
